Transform Your Ubuntu Interface: Best Ubuntu Themes

by admin

We have been covering different Ubuntu Themes; Nearly all of them were GTK themes that were inspired by material and flat design. It’s been a long time since we did an article based on themes, and we thought to give you an ultimate list.

If you are very particular about how your interface looks, this list will blow you away completely. The installation instructions are pretty much the same for all themes which come in any kind of compressed format.

Flat Remix Gnome Theme

Right now, Flat Remix Gnome is my favorite on this list. Inspired by Google’s material design, this is a simple yet modern theme. It comes with “flat” colors that look modern with high contrast and saturation levels with sharp outlines. On top of all this, it comes with its icon pack. Flat Remix theme is available in both dark and light versions.

Install Flat Remix Gnome theme using following PPA in Ubuntu and Linux Mint.

$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:daniruiz/flat-remix
$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get install flat-remix-gnome

On Fedora based distributions.

$ sudo dnf copr enable daniruiz/flat-remix
$ sudo dnf install flat-remix-gnome

Paper Theme

The paper theme is one of the best ubuntu themes because it is so popular as it is part of the Paper project. This theme has an attractive custom icon set and cursors for you to choose from.

Install Paper theme using following PPA in Ubuntu and Linux Mint.

$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:snwh/pulp
$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get install paper-gtk-theme

# if you want to install the icons and colors
$ sudo apt-get install paper-icon-theme
$ sudo apt-get install paper-cursor-theme

Arc Theme

The Arc theme is arguably the most popular Ubuntu desktop theme. It is a modern flat GTK theme; it has transparent elements and comes in 3 colorways – Arc, Arc-Darker, and Arc-Dark.

Install Arc theme, add the repository, and install manually on Ubuntu 18.04 as shown.

$ sudo sh -c "echo 'deb /' > /etc/apt/sources.list.d/home:Horst3180.list"
$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get install arc-theme

On Fedora 25 distributions.

# dnf config-manager --add-repo
# dnf install arc-theme

Adapta Theme

Adapta is another great ubuntu-desktop theme. It was made following the guidelines provided by material Design. Even most of the fonts are from the material design resource library.

Install Adapta GTK theme using following PPA in Ubuntu and Linux Mint.

$ sudo apt-add-repository ppa:tista/adapta
$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get install adapta-gtk-theme

On Fedora based distributions.

$ sudo dnf install adapta-gtk-theme-gtk2 adapta-gtk-theme-gtk3 gnome-shell-theme-adapta
